Vocational Village
Vocational Village at Parnall Correctional Facility
Michigan’s Vocational Village is a unique career and technical education community within the Michigan Department of Corrections that prepares adults in custody for success after release by providing real-world skills training in high-demand trades. The program blends classroom instruction with hands-on shop experience in areas like welding, machining, electrical, plumbing, robotics, commercial driving and construction trades, helping participants earn industry-recognized credentials while mastering practical skills.
By creating a supportive learning environment that mirrors real work settings, Vocational Village helps students develop both technical expertise and workplace readiness — including collaboration, safety, problem-solving and discipline. Training schedules are structured like typical workdays so participants gain confidence and professional habits that transfer directly to employment opportunities once released.
The program’s mission extends beyond training to help reduce recidivism and strengthen Michigan’s workforce by connecting graduates with job placement resources, employer partners and continued education pathways. With its focus on career readiness and community reintegration, Michigan’s Vocational Village empowers individuals to build productive futures and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
